What a year! 2022 celebrates 70 years since Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the throne, becoming the longest reigning monarch in British history.
Although with the ever-changing British weather, you can’t guarantee sunshine, nothing will put a damper on people’s spirits. They’ll be street parties, tea parties, garden parties, fetes, and parties in the park.
Whatever you’ve got planned for the four-day bank holiday weekend, here are some ideas to help you celebrate in patriotic style.
Toast her majesty with red, white, and blue champagne flutes
Our unbreakable polycarbonate plastic red, white, blue and silver champagne flutes are perfect for outdoor parties.
With no risk of breakage, they can be used safely at street parties or in the park without the risk of leaving behind broken glass. Fully dishwasher and microwave safe, these reusable and recyclable elegant champagne flutes are environmentally friendly and hazard free.
As well as our red, white and blue champagne flutes, we also have large wine glasses in solid red for the grown-ups and red octagon-shaped tumbler glasses that are ideal for children.
Decorate your platinum jubilee table
Now you’ve got the glasses sorted, it’s time to look at your other table decorations.
Anything with a union jack on is perfect, from tablecloths and napkins to balloons and bunting. Or how about having a flag flying high above the table?
If you’re having a tea party, you could opt for a vintage theme with a traditional china teapot and cups and saucers. A tiered cake stand with tiny cakes and sandwiches creates the perfect village afternoon tea look.
You can use jubilee-coloured ribbons to tie napkins and cutlery. And leave little British-themed gifts on the table for your guests, such as red London bus keyrings or old coins imprinted with her majesty’s image.
Bake fun cakes and biscuits with a royal twist
Supermarkets will be full of food dies, so you can have fun making cupcakes with red, white and blue icing and bake them in union jack patterned cupcake cases.
As well as union jack decorated cupcakes, why not fashion your cakes or biscuits into royal-themed motifs? How about some cute corgi biscuits? Or royal crown cakes?
Other distinctively British-themed cake decorations include red London buses, red telephone boxes, Big Ben, Tower Bridge and the iconic image of a beefeater. The centrepiece of the table could be a red, white and blue tiered cake with a miniature Queen Elizabeth on top with sceptre and gown or resting on a throne.
Pose for pics with British-themed props
Make sure you take plenty of photos, so you have memories to share of this historic event. And to get everyone in the party mood, provide some typically British props for people to play with.
Crowns and tiaras will add a royal theme along with the bearskin cap of the grenadier guards. Or provide vintage-stye props such as traditional bowler hats and top hats, plus a range of eccentric moustaches.
Other quintessential British styles include the icon Sherlock Holmes deerstalker hat along with his shaped pipe and Winston Churchill’s historic Homburg hat and large cigar.
